Using essential oils in a diffuser is a fantastic way for the whole family to benefit from the oils. But there are so many options for diffusers, how do you choose the best one? This blog will teach you everything you need to know about Doterra diffusers.

It is important that it is a cold mist ultrasonic diffuser because the molecules of the essential oils can lose their effect if they are heated. We should not use essential oils in fragrance lamps or other devices that heat the oils. Ultrasound means that the diffuser has a small plate that vibrates at a very high frequency and breaks the oil droplets into tiny molecules that are then diffused into the air.

Most doterra diffusers require a small amount of water and a few drops of essential oil. There is no magic formula for how many drops you should add. The size of the room, the air circulation in the room or the essential oils used will affect this individually. Good advice is to start with fewer drops, for example 2-3, as you can always add more. However, if you start with many drops and find that it is too strong, you need to drain all the oil and water and start again.

Diffuser with a baby or pet

If you are using a diffuser in the same room as a baby, please make sure the diffuser is on the opposite side of the crib. There are wonderful oils that can support a baby, but avoid oils such as peppermint, eucalyptus and pungent oils. To learn more about using essential oils for babies, check out the webinar tab in the client area and watch the video “Infant Support with Essential Oils”. If cats or dogs are roommates, make sure they can leave the room if you don’t like the oil you’re diffusing. To learn more about using oils around your pets, click here.

Cleaning Diffusor

Now let’s look at how you can keep your diffuser clean and hygienic. You should clean your diffuser at least once a month. Fill your diffuser halfway with clean water. Add 1 teaspoon of vinegar and let the diffuser run for about 5 minutes or leave the liquid in the diffuser for 15 minutes (switched off). Empty the water carefully because wipe carefully with a small cloth and, if necessary, clean the recesses carefully with a cotton bud. Rinse the diffuser with clean water and dry the diffuser with a cloth. Sometimes certain oils leave a sticky residue in the diffuser. You can then clean it in the same way as mentioned above.

Petal Diffuser

Let’s start with the Petal diffuser. This is Doterra’s best-selling diffuser. It is available in several starter sets. The Petal diffuser is popular for good reason. It is high quality and durable. I started my Doterra journey in 2016 with the Home Essentials kit, which included the Petal diffuser. I still have this diffuser and it still works. It can cover an area of 33m² and has a timer function that allows it to run for 2 or 6 hours continuously or 12 hours intermittently (5 minutes on, 5 minutes off), with optional LED lighting. The Petal diffuser comes with a one year warranty. I have this diffuser in my bedroom. Watch a video about the Petal here.

Pilot Diffuser

Next up is the pilot diffuser. I own two of these because they are so useful! With a rechargeable battery, you don’t have to worry about finding an outlet nearby. You can charge it and take it with you in the car or around the house. My husband uses it in the office. With customizable power – four hours continuous and up to eight hours intermittent diffusion, it’s the perfect diffuser for on the go. It comes with a handy carry bag that holds the charging cable and diffuser. We take this diffuser with us on vacation. The Pilot is responsibly manufactured using environmentally friendly materials and comes with a 24-month warranty. It covers an area of 18m². Want to find out more? Watch this video an.

Volo Diffuser

The Volo diffuser comes in a white marble pattern or black and covers an area of up to 28m². It has a knob that allows you to adjust how much mist is released and on the low setting it runs for 14 hours. The Volo isn’t Doterra’s quietest diffuser, but it’s a perfect addition to living spaces. I have mine in my living room. Do you see a pattern here? I own many diffusers, I literally have one in every room because I know how powerful the use of essential oils can be. is aromatic!

Laluz Diffuser

The Laluz is definitely the quietest diffuser from Doterra, which is why many people like to use it in their bedroom so that their sleep is not disturbed by the sound of a diffuser. With a timer function that allows it to run for 1, 2, 4 hours or just until the water runs out, which is about 8 hours, it has a function for all situations. It is very aesthetically pleasing, making it the perfect addition to any room in the house. The lid of the Laluz is made of glass. Optional mood-adapted lighting setting: dimmed, warm white, lavender-colored light.

Lumo Diffuser

Inspired by nature, the Lumo diffuser features a maple wood base and multiple light settings inspired by natural elements. With customizable power, the Lumo can run continuously for 2 or 5 hours and intermittently for 10 hours. It can cover the largest area of the diffusers we have looked at so far, around 50m². This diffuser is similar to the Petal in terms of noise and is a very durable, long lasting diffuser.

Dawn humidifier

Finally comes the Dawn. The Dawn isn’t just a diffuser, it’s actually a humidifier that you can add essential oils to. With settings for low, medium or high, as well as a smart sleep mode that maintains ideal humidity levels throughout the night, you have many options for the level of humidity in a room. But be aware that the floor around the Dawn will get wet if it runs on the high setting. It amazes me that the Dawn can do all this at an extremely low noise level. On low, it can diffuse continuously for up to 22 hours and is easy to disassemble for cleaning. Its dimensions are 15 x 27 cm with a water capacity of 1.8L. I am always so grateful for the Dawn during the cold and dry winter months. To see the Dawn in action and learn more about how to fill it, check out this video.

Doterra occasionally has cool promotions and limited time offers on diffusers throughout the year. For example, in the past there have been limited time offers on a diffuser in the shape of a whale, an elephant, a fox and a sloth. There was also a train diffuser. So keep your eyes peeled, because there will probably be some again in the future.
